Communikey kicks off next week! In advance of our Opening Gala on April 16 withCharles Cohen and Experimental Housewife, we are pleased to share details regarding our workshops, the CMKY 2015 film screening and the Weekender Pass.
Our kid-friendly workshops at The Studio (Boulder) take a new angle this year with a focus on the Maker Movement. Creative technologist Jen Lewin will lead a two-part workshop dedicated to wearable electronics, which explores techniques used in Lewin’s interactive sculptures The Butterfly and The Moths. Participants will learn to paint and decorate a silk scarf by hand, and then weave LEDs and electronics directly into the scarf to create a futuristic fashion accessory!
Later in the weekend, open source hardware guru Alicia Gibb will host her Paper Electronics For Kids workshop where participants will bring one of a kind objects to life with light using nothing more than paper designs, basic circuitry and LEDs. This workshop is suitable for kids of all ages from 7 and up.
Madelife also hosts an intermediate MaxMSP workshop, with instructor Sean Peuquetoffering a guided tour through software synth development, interface mapping and alternative control strategies for live performance using Max7.
Additionally, we are pleased to host a screening of Petter Mettler’s gorgeous film The End Of Time. Dedicated to taking on the elusive subject of time, The End Of Time finds Mettler attempting to film the unfilmable. From the particle accelerator in Switzerland, where scientists seek to probe regions of time we cannot see, to lava flows in Hawaii which have overwhelmed all but one home on the south side of Big Island, Mettler dares to dream the movie of the future while immersing us in the wonders of the everyday.
